About the event

When baby arrives, quite often the focus is primarily on caring for the baby, and not the mothers healing and well-being.

While many women are considered to have physically recovered from birth after six weeks, that doesn’t mean your body has completely healed and is ready to start getting back to "normal" activity and movement before you were pregnant. After all, it takes nine months to grow a baby, so it is expected to take at least that long for the body to go back to “normal" and function at it's best.

During the first year post-birth, many women will experience pelvic pain, leakage, diastasis, discomfort during intercourse, weak core, hips, and back, mood swings, and in many cases, if left unaddressed, these issues can have long-term consequences on the body.

The best way to optimise healing and ensure a woman's body is functioning at it's best in order to meet the demands of motherhood, is to be informed and educated about the tremendous changes a woman's body undergoe's during pregnancy and after birth -- and this workshop aims to do exactly that.

The workshop will be led by Pelvic Floor Physio Therapist Jitka Filova from Mint Therapy, and a Certified Postnatal Fitness Specialist Chantelle Tuma, from Mothergood.

During our 90 minute workshop we will cover:

- The changes that happen physiologically inside a woman's body during the late stages of

 pregnancy and early postpartum recovery

- How to support healing at home

- How to correctly engage and relax the pelvic floor

- How to self-assess diastasis recti

- What exercises and movements to avoid during recovery

- Different issues and dysfunctions that can occur post-birth and when to seek support

- How to safely lift, carry, and move with baby to avoid tension and pain

- Guidlines to safely return to exercise postpartum

The workshop will be instructional, interactive, and inclusive. You will get a chance to practice some of the techniques we will cover, so come in comfortable clothes, and feel free to bring our baby along!
